Mr. Ewan Kannegieter, founder of Kann Foot Surgery, is a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon with over 20 years’ experience in the foot business. He undertakes over 800 surgical foot procedures each year.

Based in central Essex at the Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford Mr. Kannegieter provides effective, pain-relieving solutions for many foot and ankle conditions, including bunions, hammertoes, heel pain and many other foot issues.
 
Consultations, diagnostics, treatment and surgery are also available with Mr Kannegieter at 9 Harley Street and the Weymouth Hospital, London.
 
A previous winner of the Glasgow Caledonian University Clinical Medicine Prize, he graduated with a distinction in Podiatric Medicine in 1999 and went on to further his training in Bishops Stortford, Epping, Colchester, Ilkeston and Reading before gaining his fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 2012 and certificate of completion of podiatric surgical training in 2016.
Following 3 years as a Specialist Registrar in Podiatric Surgery at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Mr. Kannegieter relocated to the Essex countryside, where he works both privately and for the NHS as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon. Over the past 20 years, Mr. Kannegieter has expertly honed his skills and experience in a broad range of elective foot surgery and has developed a special interest in diabetic limb salvage surgery, and the rheumatoid foot.
 
Mr. Kannegieter holds an NHS post as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at Braintree Community Hospital in Essex, employed by Provide CIC, and works closely with the Vascular Surgery and Plastic Surgery teams at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
 
He is proud to be a tutor in Podiatric Surgery and has lectured at various regional and national conferences with the Royal College of Podiatry. He is a reviewer for the UK Podiatry journal, The Podiatrist, leads clinical governance and supervision for surgical units and is a mentor for surgical first assistants, non-medical prescribers and advanced clinical MSc students.
 
Ewan is an instructor for Marquardt fixation at their annual lower limb cadaveric surgery course in Frankfurt, works as a consultant for Novastep helping design internal fixation for the European-American market and has lectured for Acumed. He provides numerous second opinions on foot pathology and surgery cases for colleagues and patients from around the globe, from countries such as China, USA, Italy, Israel and Australia.
 
Mr Kannegieter was appointed as Chair of the Southern Deanery for Podiatric Surgery in 2020, he sits on the Royal College of Podiatry Faculty of Podiatric Surgery Board and takes up the role of Vice-Dean in July 2021. He is the co-chair of the annual scientific conference for podiatric surgery (FOPS Conference) for 2022 and 2023.

Nikki works alongside Mr Kannegieter and is the centre for all contact regarding bookings, enquiries, pricing, coding and communication. Nikki has worked in the private hospital sector for a number of years and has significant expertise in handling patient queries with skill, expediency and energy. Nikki is the medsec to Mr Kannegieter and Mr Georgeu (Consultant Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon https://garrickgeorgeu.co.uk/) working both from home and at the Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford site.

Nikki Freeman

Dr Niven Akotia

Consultant Anaesthetist and Peri-op Physician

Dr Niven Akotia works with Mr Kannegieter at the Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford providing general anaesthetic or sedation and oversees the peri-operative medical management with our pre-op nurses.

Niven qualified from St George’s Medical School, University of London in 2002.

He began his specialist training in Anaesthesia with the South Coast School of Anaesthesia and underwent further specialist training in Anaesthesia from the Barts and London School of Anaesthesia from 2007.

Niven has achieved higher training in vascular, trauma and ophthalmic anaesthesia; pain and intensive care. He undertook a year fellowship in teaching and education and was an Honorary Lecturer at the prestigious Queen Mary’s University of London during that time.

Having completed his training and awarded certification in 2013, he has been working in Broomfield Hospital as a Locum Consultant, and earned a substantive consultant position in 2015.

HIs main clinical expertise is in pre-operative medicine, high-risk & day-case anaesthesia, including urological, breast & orthopaedic surgery. He also has a MSc in Informatics and a keen interest in healthcare technology.

Niven prides himself going the extra mile to help patients have a positive experience from their surgery. Once a year he travels to Zambia to run an educational programme in acute pain management as part of the charity Out to Africa. In his free time, he enjoys cycling.
